Sixty-nine volunteers rolled their sleeves up for a clean up activity at Muara Beach yesterday, collecting 24 bags of trash (135 kg of waste) from a 300-metre stretch in 45 minutes. The volunteers comprising of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Discovery Year students and members of the public, collected trash including a refrigerator door, bottle caps, toothbrushes, diapers, tyres, cushions and a mattress. The campaign aimed to instil awareness on the importance of cleanliness and safety, while promoting conservation of the coastal environment, particularly among the youth. The Green Depot invited Belait District residents to participate in recycling efforts by bringing recyclable material to their fifth recycling drive at the STKRJ Lorong Tiga Seria Mosque from 8am to noon on August 23. Items accepted are paper, cardboard, metal, aluminium, plastic bottles and electronic waste (computer waste). The event aims to encourage the residents to practise recycling while reducing the amount of solid waste that goes into landfills. Green Depot launched a two-day ‘Weekend Thrift Market’ at its Belait District branch near the Golden Jubilee Recreational Park yesterday. The two-day charity drive organised by Green Brunei from June 13 ended at Gerakan Room I of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium and Green Depot in Kuala Belait yesterday. 68 bags of trash collected in clean-up initiative

A total of 68 bags of trash weighing 390kg consisting mostly of plastic waste as well as 297.4kg of recyclables were collected yesterday during a World Environment Day Clean-up organised by Green Brunei in the vicinity of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Bolkiah ‘A’. Over 50 volunteers took part in the clean-up campaign, which included Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students in their Discovery Year, Green Brunei, Brunei Kayak, local residents, the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), SB Kani Company, and the general public. Some 20 third year students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) recently carried out a study-visit to the residence of Madu Kelulut entrepreneur Haji Abidin bin Haji Tengah to watch soap making out of Propolis Madu Kelulut in RPN Kampong Rimba. Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari as the Community Outreach Programme Supervisor also participated. Haji Abidin has been in the business for nearly six years and recently started producing soap out of the Propolis Madu Kelulut earlier this year.
