Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd organised its fifth reforestation project at Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to protect and preserve Brunei Darussalam’s biodiversity and natural environment, and to support Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy’s (BNCCP) Strategy 2 on Forest Cover, which aims to increase the natural carbon sink through afforestation and reforestation with the target of planting 500,000 new trees by 2035. Over 65 people comprising Hengyi officials, representatives from the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS), the Forestry Department and Green Brunei, as well as volunteers, rolled up their sleeves to help plant 510 saplings across 0.5 hectares of land. Over 328kg of trash collected at beach clean-up

Over 328 kilogrammes of trash, comprising plastic bottles, lighters, fishing nets, food wrappers and cigarette butts, were collected duing a beach clean-up along Lumut Beach, Belait Distrct yesterday. Over 53 trash bags of waste were collected by 54 volunteers, were later disposed by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development. Thirty-nine youth participated in a four-day-three-night camp, organised by Green Brunei, concluded with a certificate presentation at Riadah Hall, Youth Centre on Friday. The 8th Green Leaders Camp this year focused on climate change with the theme ‘Go Green or Go Home’. Participants were aged between 14 to 22. Members of the public are urged to bring their own bottles or reusable cups for free refills during the 37th National Day celebration. Under Green Brunei’s Bandarku Bersih (My Clean City) and Bandarku Bebas Botol Plastik (My City is Free of Plastic Bottles), five water dispensers will be placed at key locations along the parade route leading to Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien. The campaign is a follow-up to last year’s initiative, where the public consumed more than 200 gallons of water from 32 dispensers in eight locations around the capital. Green Depot will conduct its seventh recycling drive at the Kuala Belait (KB) Sentral Shopping Centre on February 14 from 1pm to 4pm. The event is aimed to encouraging the public to practice recycling. Green Depot encourages the public to drop by with recyclable items - paper, cardboard, metal, aluminium, plastic and electronic waste (computer waste) - to reduce waste generated and disposed into landfills. Users can also register an account at Register (green-brunei.com) and track their recycling records, which has the added benefits of generating monetary rewards for their recycling efforts. Over 60 volunteers from the Brunei Youth Council (MBB), Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT), Green Brunei and Green Depot, who joined hands in a beach clean-up at SilverJubilee Park, Kuala Belait, collected over 141 kilogrammes of waste including bottle caps, soda tins, food wrapping and packaging, and cigarette butts. The waste was collected by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRE) of the Ministry of Development. Over 40 volunteers comprising Green Depot members and the public participated in a beach cleaning campaign in Belait on Sunday collected 189kgs of trash and disposed it with JASTRe’s aid. It was organised by Green Brunei, supported by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe). Village Head of Kampong Pandan A Sulaiman bin Haji Udin attended. Green Depot, with support from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), collected some 193.4 kilogrammes of recyclable materials during a drive at STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria Mosque last Sunday to raise awareness of waste pollution in the country. It was the fifth recycling drive by the recycling centre since its inception in December 2018. So far, Green Depot has collected over 36,000 kilogrammes of recyclables, ranging from paper to metal to aluminium to e-waste. These recycling drives serve as an opportunity for members of Green Depot to educate the public on how to differentiate between recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
