On the 24th of November 2019, 400 trees were planted in the Biodiversity Park, Berakas Forest Reserve. This tree planting activity was organised by namujoonbn, A Brunei based fanclub - led by Najibah binti Hj Sofian - for the popular K-Pop band BTS, to celebrate and commemorate the birthday of the band's leader, Kim Nam-joon. The tree planting event was jointly supported by Green Brunei and the Forestry Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism in our mission to strengthen reforestation efforts in the nation. Over 170 volunteers came together for this tree planting event; with volunteers from Politeknik Brunei, UBD, and JIS as well as staff from the Forestry Department, representatives from Serviclean Sdn. Recycling Drive at RPN Mengkubau

Green Brunei together with Green Depot and Recover - in partnership with Majlis Perundingan Kampung (MPK) Kampung Panchor Mengkubau hosted a recycling drive at Bukit Riadah, Rancangan Perumahan Negara (RPN) Mengkubau. The recycling drive was preceded by the distribution of flyers to houses within the national housing scheme in Kampung Panchor Mengkubau. The flyer distribution took place on the 10th of November with the help of about 60 volunteers. 56 participants comprising youth participated in the 7th Green Leaders Camp organised by Green Brunei from 5 - 8 August 2019. This year’s theme focuses on climate change with the hashtag “#ThinkClimate”. One of the main objectives of this camp was to enable participants to critically assess environmental issues in Brunei and subsequently find possible solutions for these issues through discussions and activities. On the first day, participants had a field trip to the Mangrove to witness wildlife living amidst the mangrove such as the proboscis monkey, eagle and crocodile. The participants were then brought to Kampong Ayer to visit the Kunyit 7 Lodge. Kem, the owner of Kunyit 7 Lodge, shared the importance of recycling and upcycling, and proceeded to show different ways she has contributed towards the environment.…

2nd GB Recycling Drive of 2019 collects over 500 kg of recyclables

On 21st April, Green Brunei successfully organised a recycling drive in conjunction with Earth Day at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. Over 20 members of the public dropped by, resulting in over 500 kg of recyclables gathered in three hours. To break it down: 379 kg of paper, 6 kg of aluminium, 28 kg of metal and 108 kg of plastic [caption id="attachment_1658" align="aligncenter" width="640"] The complete haul at the end of the recycling drive[/caption] This was made possible through the gracious support of the public. Kampung Sungai Kebun Clean-up Collects Over 70 bags of Waste

In conjunction with International Day of Action for Rivers, Green Brunei has organised a Kampung Ayer Clean-up in Kampung Sungai Kebun on 14th April from 8-10 AM. Over 40 volunteers were successfully mobilised, comprising of students, local villagers, personnel from Balai Bomba Sungai Kebun, other members of the public and Green Brunei. Also in attendance were Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, Legislative Council Member and Co-Founder/Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei, and Awang Haji Marali bin Matzin, Ketua Kampong Sungai Kebun. Lee Huan Ni and Lee Huan Ching of Team Gaia won first place at the Green Brunei Eco Race on 7th April 2019. They earned a cash prize of BND250, two BND20 I-Lotus Restaurant meal vouchers and two BND10 Caffè Bene cash vouchers. The race, with the start and finish line at Taman Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, was held in Bandarku Ceria. Involving 44 participants aged 15 years old and above, it aimed to promote environmental awareness through a series of challenging eco-themed obstacles about sustainability, biodiversity loss, climate change and more. On 1st April 2019, Green Brunei successfully organised a recycling drive in conjunction with Global Recycling Day (18th March). Green Brunei's conservation team (comprising of Nazurah Noor and Wynona Curaming) spearheaded the drive from 2-4 PM under the National Stadium. Almost 40 people participated by giving their recyclable items. Thanks to the public's gracious support, over 400 kg of recyclables were gathered in total.   To break it down, the following were collected: 108 kg plastic bottles 335 kg paper 35 kg of e-waste, metal items and aluminum cans [caption id="attachment_1567" align="aligncenter" width="640"] A variety of recyclables classified into plastic, paper, metal and e-waste[/caption] The Daikyo Recycling Company assisted in weighing the items.
