ACTIVITIES in Belait

In Belait, there are several activities that you can take for your leisure. You can go to Mukim Labi for it nature base activity, take one of the two Tour Package for a trip in Belait, go to one of the Sport and Club for some physical activity or go to some Education area such as a museum or exhibit to seek some knowledge.

Mukim Labi:

There are various activities that you can do in Mukim Labi at places like Luagan Lalak Recreational Park, Wasai Teraja and Wong kadir Waterfall. It is advised to wear light and airy clothing when venturing into Labi. Don’t forget to bring insect repellant and basic first aid kit. Also the dense areas in Labi have poor mobile phone reception, so be alert and cautious when traveling in Labi. It is idea for you to contact the Teraja Longhouse which you can find it in the Place of Attraction section or refer to this Explore Labi’s guide pdf.

The activities that you can do are as follows:

Waterfall Walk

Despite that there 40 waterfalls in Labi, not all of them are accessible to the public where the popular waterfalls are Wong Kadir Waterfall. Belilok Waterfall and Teraja Waterfall. It is recommended to go with the local guide at the longhouse in Labi as it may take a whole day to visit all the waterfalls.

Trekking & Camping

Labi is an opportunity to be immersed in the lush scenery among the flora and fauna of Labi. There are two treks open to visitors where you can either start your trek from the Tropical Biodiversity Centre or from the Teraja Forest Reserve. Be sure to get in touch with the Tropical Biodiversity Centre or the Teraja Longhouse before embarking on your trek to guide through the trail.

Wildlife Watching

The Labi’s rainforest is the perfect place for wildlife watching due to its rich and unique biodiversity. It is home to over 50 species of wildlife ranging from amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

Birdwatching

Labi have many varieties of bird that can be found in the area namely Tree Babbler, Grey Headed Fish Eagle, Blue-winged Leaf bird and many more.  A popular spot for Bird watching is Luagan Lalak Forest Recreational Park or Bukit Teraja. The ideal time to do it is early in the morning between 6am to 10am and late afternoon from 4pm to 6pm.

Description:

Pick up from the hotel and drive to the south eastern part of Brunei’s beautiful interior. On the way, stop by Tutong town to buy local delicacies for refreshment. Brief stop at the Forestry museum to learn about Brunei’s unique forest. Along the way, your guide will introduce to you the various types of vegetation and rainforest. Short Stop at the stunning “Luagan Lalak” a serene peaceful natural alluvial freshwater swamp (which looks like a lake). Continue the journey and see miles and miles of Rainforest before reaching Labi. At Labi, you can see vast rice fields, Green orange farm, Papaya farm and many other local fruit trees. Upon arrival at Labi, we will visit a tribal longhouse or “Rumah Panjang”. It belongs to a tribe called “IBAN” which was once known as the fierce headhunter of Borneo. At the Longhouse, learn about their lifestyle & handicraft that they made. Thereafter, stop by a local restaurant for lunch before heading back to the hotel with fond memories of Labi.

Description:

Pick up from the Hotel and proceed to the Oil district of Brunei. Your tour starts with pick up from your hotel and goes on a one hour scenic drive to Seria Oil town. On the way, a brief stop at Sungai Liang Rainforest Park. Continue passing by Brunei Methanol plant, Brunei Liquid Natural Gas facilities (BLNG), Lumut beach to see offshore oil rigs and Oil tankers in the distance. Your trip will pass through Brunei Oil refinery facilities, see a huge oil storage tank. Upon reaching Seria Oil town, you will be able to see the “nodding donkeys” (Mechanical & Electric oil pump) & “Christmas Tree” (Natural Gas Valve). After that, photos stop at the Billionth Barrel Monument which is located on Seria Beach and at a nodding Donkey nearby. Proceed to the less known town of Kuala Belait where you will have lunch. Liang Lumut Recreational Club

Liang Lumut Recreation Club is the number one recreational hub in Muki Liang-Lumut that offers the best service to its customers. It has a multi purpose hall that can be rented and booked for various events such as wedding, parties, meeting or sport related activity. It even has a public water park for the family to enjoy, a nearby  beach if you plan to have a group gathering and a small restaurant that serves meals between the price of $7 to $10. The Admission fee is $2 per child, $3 per adult and $8 for a family of four with (2 adults, 2 children).

Serial Energy Lab (SEL)

The Seria Energy Lab (SEL) is a family-oriented centre that is home to exhibitions and activity related to the oil & gas industry and it’s exploration in Belait. The SEL closed on Mondays and you will need to book for a guide tour 3 days in advance

The admission rate to enter the Seria Energy Lab is as follow:

  • Below 4 years old: Free for Brunei Citizen and Non-Brunei Citizen.
  • Child (5-11 years old): $7 for Brunei Citizen and $10 for Non-Brunei Citizen.
  • Teen (12-17 years old):  $10 for Brunei Citizen and $13 for Non-Brunei Citizen.
  • Adult (18-54 years old): $15 for Brunei Citizen and $25 for Non-Brunei Citizen.
  • Senior Citizen (55 years old and above): $10 for Brunei Citizen and $15 for Non-Brunei Citizen.
  • School Visit: $5 per student for Brunei Citizen and Non-Brunei Citizen.

The Tropical Biodiversity Centre is an exhibition for nature enthusiasts to discover the rich flora and fauna in Brunei. It features an interactive learning experience exhibition with over 12 touchscreen kiosks that will explain about the centre and the biodiversity in Brunei.
