Sixty-nine volunteers rolled their sleeves up for a clean up activity at Muara Beach yesterday, collecting 24 bags of trash (135 kg of waste) from a 300-metre stretch in 45 minutes.

The volunteers comprising of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Discovery Year students and members of the public, collected trash including a refrigerator door, bottle caps, toothbrushes, diapers, tyres, cushions and a mattress.

The campaign aimed to instil awareness on the importance of cleanliness and safety, while promoting conservation of the coastal environment, particularly among the youth.

The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a warm up session. Legislative Council member, Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari supervised the project.

The event, supported by Green Brunei, was a community service activity together with representatives from the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT).
