Climate Explorer Programme Kicks Off

Green Brunei officially launched its Climate Explorer programme on Tuesday, 19 August with the first school visit participated by 28 students and 3 teachers from Sekolah Arab Temburong.

The first trip brought together enthusiastic students and teachers to visit Eco Ponies Garden and Mori Farm, where the participants engaged in hands-on farm-to-table activities and learned about eco-friendly farming methods, biodiversity and the traditional kampong lifestyle. Not only that, they gained valuable insights into the cultivation of food using natural, chemical-free techniques and discovered the ecological significance of local plants such as Moringa and other herbs. The visit reinforced the importance of sustainable food production and the interdependence between agriculture and the natural environment.

The second trip conducted on Thursday was joined by Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali, who visited Eco Ponies Garden and Labulicious Farm. Students were introduced to sustainable farming practices while experiencing the beauty of traditional rural life. They learned how fresh produce such as pumpkins is cultivated and gained insights into the vital role of environmentally friendly agriculture. Beyond deepening their understanding of sustainable farming, this visit also encouraged students to appreciate the journey of their food from farm to table.

The programme, which is a national education tour project, aims to bring 300 students from 10 schools to visit different ecotourism and educational sites in Tutong District during the school holidays in August and December. Eight more schools from Temburong and Belait Districts will take part in the visit in December, expanding its reach to more students across the country.

The programme is designed to offer an immersive learning experience through visits to educational institutions and village communities, highlighting the district’s unique features. This initiative aims to transform classroom knowledge into real-world understanding by engaging directly with Brunei’s cultural, historical and environmental heritage.

At the same time, the Climate Explorer programme contributes to local socioeconomic development by engaging small businesses and village enterprises in Tutong, creating opportunities in sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, and community-based enterprises. By bringing students and teachers to these sites, the project supports local livelihoods and increases awareness of Tutong’s unique offerings, fostering long-term community resilience.

This project was made possible through the support from the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, and the Department of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs, whose contributions reflect a strong commitment to environmental education, youth development and community engagement. The programme is sponsored by Brunei LNG, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental sustainability,by introducing students to businesses that embrace renewable practices in Tutong.

Through the Climate Explorer programme, Green Brunei continues its mission of promoting environmental education and sustainability while empowering youth to play an active role in safeguarding Brunei’s natural and cultural heritage.
