The two-day charity drive organised by Green Brunei from June 13 ended at Gerakan Room I of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium and Green Depot in Kuala Belait yesterday.
Legislative Council member and Green Brunei founder Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari said the charity drive collected over 100 boxes of clothing, toys and household items.
“In the next few days, from Monday to Friday, our volunteers will sort the items and divide them into two major piles; to sell via Instagram at @charitysale.bn and give away free on the final day,” she said.
She shared the majority of the items received such as Lego collections, dumbbells and branded items are in a good condition and can be sold.
“The rest of the items are mostly work attire, baju kurung, scarves and other clothing. We are going to sort them out properly,” she added.
Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa said a free market similar to a garage sale will be set up where people can collect them on a first come first serve basis.
“We won’t limit how much clothing they want to collect. We are not going to put everything out at the same time, and it will be in phases and so they can bring something home, and bring along their own bag or box,” she said.
She said these items can benefit others and serves as a platform for people to let go of their items.
Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa said with the COVID-19 situation, the restriction of mass gatherings, and proper precautions will be in place.
The objective of the charity drive is to raise funds for Green Brunei to run its programmes as well as to spread mental health awareness by printing posters.
“We realise that not everyone knows where to find support for mental health and some are not aware about Talian Harapan.
“We are targetting schools because I think that would be a good platform for them to spread the information to family members so that they know that there is a platform they can seek help from,” she said.
