The second batch of face shields made by volunteers from Green Brunei along with support from several communities was presented to the Ministry of Health (MoH) on Monday.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar received the DIY face shields from Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii and Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari, and representatives from Peradian Brunei and Cerita Fabrikku were also present.
The initiative was spearheaded by Peradian Brunei, a community network comprising Fera Health and Nursing Care, Big BWN Project, Kunyit 7 Lodge and Simon Adinin.
The collaboration with Cerita Fabrikku and Green Brunei provided support to complete the project.
According to Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa, volunteers began mass producing the essential gear for frontliners on April 4, and will continue until tomorrow to produce 22,000 face shields by over 45 volunteers.
The first 10,000 units were funded by contributions from the community through Fera Health and Nursing Care. It has been distributed among different departments under the MoH.
The production of an additional 10,000 units will be supported by staff of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Corporate Banking Division, while an additional 2,000 units will be funded and produced by Sparks Co, AKK Design and My Favoureat Kopitiam.
Support and contributions for the project have come from several agencies, businesses and individuals, including the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The materials for the DIY face shields include foam mattresses cut into shapes, elastic straps and transparent PVC sheets.
The assembly for each unit takes only a few minutes, using staplers, double-sided tape and white glue. The design for the face shields was done with input from the MoH clinical personnel and adapted open source design and production experience inputs.
