MORE than 800 volunteers joined forces yesterday morning for the annual ‘Brunei Coastal Clean-up’ campaign organised by the BSJV companies.
At the Muara Beach, volunteers managed to collect 360.7 kilogrammes of garbage, while Jerudong Beach clean-up resulted in the collection of a total of 3,767.68 kilogrammes of rubbish. In Danau Beach, volunteers were successful in collecting 554 kilogrammes of trash, Lumut Beach saw the collection of 898.915 kilogrammes of trash and Panaga Beach volunteers collected a total of 325 kilogrammes of garbage. At the Jerudong Beach, a total of 221 volunteers alongside the organisers lent a helping hand in cleaning the beach areas during the campaing yesterday.
The volunteers included students from various secondary schools and colleges, Darussalam Assets, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), Green Brunei, among others.
At the Muara Beach, the campaign saw the participation of Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, the Brunei-Muara District Officer, along with the BSJV and BGC staff as well as other volunteers.
The event aimed at promoting environmental conservation by main-taining the cleanliness of the local beach shores and instilling a sense of volunteerism as well as strengthening the relationship among the BSJV and BGC staff members with the local youth and community.
