Farming and Agribusiness is a profitable industry that will not only benefit and diversify Brunei Darussalam’s economy, but can also improve the livelihood of its people, by creating more job opportunities especially for youths. Dr. Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, at the closing ceremony of the 5th Green Leaders camp, encouraged youths to participate and grab the opportunities available in the growing sector.
The programme organised by Green Brunei was joined by 15 participants from different education backgrounds. It aimed to raise awareness amongst youths about environment issues in Brunei as well as to enhance their leadership skills. The programme was filled with talks from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood as well as Meteorological Department. The participants were also had the opportunity to go for site visits and conduct practical work throughout the 3 day programme.
The participants were given a management project whereby they must come up with their own ideas on how to make their own green project after completing the camp. The programme received a good response from the youth themselves and they expressed their desire to join the next Green Leaders camp session.
