Brunei Methanol Company Tree Planting Event in Berakas Forest Reserve

Green Brunei, in collaboration with Brunei Methanol Company (BMC), has organized a significant tree planting event at Biodiversity Park within the Berakas Forest Reserve. This momentous event took place on the 21st of September 2023, from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM. A total of 100 tree saplings were planted, symbolizing a shared commitment to environmental conservation.

The Guest of Honour was YM Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy / BMC’s Deputy Chairman. His Excellency Maeda Toru, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; BMC’s Board Member Ahmad Fathi bin Dato Paduka Haji Junaidi; Acting Managing Director of Petroleum Authority Haji Kula bin Haji Metasan and other representatives from the @petroleum_authority.bn, @jastre.bn and @shena.gov.bn were also present in this meaningful event.

The tree planting event saw a distinguished gathering of participants, including the Guest of Honour and invited guests, who collectively planted four tree saplings. The remaining 96 tree saplings were lovingly planted by dedicated volunteers from the community. The event garnered support from the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat and the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

The primary objective of this initiative is to actively contribute to environmental conservation and support Brunei Darussalam’s national goal of planting 500,000 new trees by 2035, as outlined in the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy.

Biodiversity Park, nestled within the Berakas Forest Reserve, was chosen as the venue for this tree planting event due to its ecological significance. The park serves as a sanctuary for a diverse range of plant and animal species, and this tree planting effort plays a vital role in enhancing the park’s ecological value.
