The Berhad (BIBD) Sustainability Youth Leadership Award Presentation Ceremony took place on August 2, 2023, at the prestigious International Convention Centre in Berakas. The event was graced by the presence of Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, who attended as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony served as a platform to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the next generation’s brightest minds who have been committed to addressing major environmental, social, and economic challenges in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The BIBD Sustainability Youth Leadership Award, an initiative by BIBD, seeks to empower young leaders and provide them with a springboard to catalyze change by addressing critical issues in various domains such as education, environment, health, and jobs. This award aims to foster the spirit of innovation, leadership, and sustainability within the Bruneian youth community.
The four outstanding projects that secured the coveted awards this year are as follows:
- Projek Hayaa’ in the Education Cluster – An initiative that strives to enhance educational opportunities and access for underserved communities, ensuring no one is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge.
- IKLIM Chapters in the Environment Cluster – A dedicated effort to combat environmental issues by promoting eco-friendly practices and climate-conscious solutions.
- Project Pink Box in the Health Cluster – A project that focuses on raising awareness and support for women’s health, ensuring the well-being of women in Brunei.
- Upskilling Tutong in the Jobs Cluster – A project that aims to equip the local workforce in Tutong with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the demands of the modern job market.
The BIBD Sustainability Youth Leadership Award is the culmination of the SDG Youth Dialogue 2023, which was organized by @sdg_brunei in collaboration with @kkbsbrunei, @majlisbeliabn, and @myactionsforsdgs back in May. This transformative dialogue resulted in two vital outcomes – the SDG Youth Statement, a powerful commitment to the pursuit of sustainable development, and a collection of innovative youth project ideas centered around the SDGs.
The BIBD Sustainability Youth Leadership Award Presentation Ceremony not only recognizes the aspirations of Brunei’s young changemakers but also reinforces the significance of their efforts in shaping a more sustainable and prosperous future for the nation.
