A GROUP of more than 20 staff from Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) recently volunteered their time to clean areas of Kampong Ayer near Kampong Sungai Besar.
The volunteering initiative was spearheaded by Standard Chartered’s Recreation Club committee and led by the club’s chairperson, Muhammad Red bin Abdullah Ong in collaboration with Green Brunei whose volunteers also participated in the activity.
The volunteers started out from the jetty at the Waterfront in the capital at 7am and made their way via boat. The cleaning activity lasted over two hours.
In a press release, Muhammad Red said he was pleased that Standard Chartered encourages their employees to give back to the community through volunteering activities.
“Kampong Ayer is one of the main attractions in Brunei… In addition to preserving our heritage, we also want to raise awareness of cleanliness and care for our environment,” he said. “Our actions, big or small, all contribute towards the impact we make towards the sustainability of our environment.”
SCB actively encourage its staff to take time off work to volunteer in the community by giving all staff three days of employee volunteering leave in addition to their annual leave.
The bank believes these volunteering initiatives will have a significant positive impact across its global footprint.
