A GROUP of more than 20 staff from Standard Chartered Bank volunteered their time to clean Kampong Ayer, near Kampung Sungai Besar area yesterday morning.
The volunteering initiative was spearheaded by Standard Chartered’s Recreation Club committee and led by the club’s chairperson, Muhammad Red Abdullah Ong, in collaboration with Green Brunei whose volunteers also participated in the activity.
The volunteers started out from the jetty at the waterfront in town at 7am and made their way to the via boat before commencing with their cleaning activity over two hours.
Muhammad Red said: “I am pleased that Standard Chartered encourages us as employees to give back to the community through volunteering activities such as these. Kampong Ayer is one of the main attractions in Brunei and as such in addition to preserving our heritage, we also want to raise awareness around cleanliness and care for our environment. Our actions big or small all contribute towards the impact we make towards the sustainability of our environment.”
