34 teams compete for a green cause

THE second Remarkable Green Race concluded yesterday with 34 teams taking part to tackle various environmentally-themed obstacles in Bio-Innovation Corridor in Tungku.

Present as the guest of honour was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) Wardi Hj Mohammad Ali, who presented prizes and tokens of appreciation to winners and sponsors respectively.

The first place went to Team The Uncertain who earned 53 points. Team members brought home four Canon Ixus 310 digital cameras sponsored by Interhouse, diving course vouchers from Oceanic Quest, and one-week passes to Fitness Zone.

Second place went to Team Farmers with 46 points, and the members received printers sponsored by Interhouse, two-day-one-night stay in Sumbiling Eco Village, Temburong, and one-week passes to Fitness Zone.

Coming in third place was Team Plan ‘C’ with 45 points. They received four 1TB external harddisks sponsored by Netcom, two-day-one-night stay at Starlodge Hotel, and one-week passes to Fitness Zone.

The race aims to promote environmental-awareness amongst the participants through a fun and engaging activity, according to a press statement by Green Brunei. Teams were able to earn points not just by competing in the games, but also through carpooling to the venue, and promoting environmental action and messages through social media supported by Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd.

Various environmental themes were highlighted during the race, including water conservation, climate change and biodiversity.

The teams were able to learn more about the various plants and animals available there while at the same time encouraging a healthy lifestyle as well as promoting local tourism.

The event was also supported by various agencies, such as BruCert, Riza Group, Aewon, Syarikat Malar Setia, among others.
