PKWE terima sumbangan pelajar UBD

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 30 Mac – Lima orang pelajar Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), semalam, telah menyerahkan buku-buku sumbangan kepada Pusat Kegiatan Warga Emas (PKWE) di Lambak Kanan dan juga di Mukim Buku Rimba, Kampung Rimba. Buku-buku berkenaan telah disumbangkan oleh Green Brunei Eco Drive dan SBYLEP serta orang ramai yang telah dikumpulkan dalam jangka masa sembilan hari. Menerima buku-buku berkenaan bagi pihak PKWE ialah pengurusnya, Haji Mohd Hussin bin Haji A Yusof dan ahli-ahli PKWE, manakala itu, bagi Mukim Buku Rimba, sumbangan diterima oleh penjaganya, Dayang Halimah binti Haji Awang Lajak dan Pegawai Perpustakaan, Ketua Unit Pinjaman Perpustakaan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Dayang Norhasinah binti Haji Moksin. GREEN Brunei is inviting parents of children aged between 14- and 18-years -old to register their children for the first Climate Camp that will run from April 4-6. The three-day, two-night camp will be held in Sumbiling Eco Village, Temburong, according to a press release. The campers will enjoy fun and educational activities in an eco-friendly natural environment. Campers will learn about the many plants and insects found in and around the camping site, eat locally sourced food and practise recycling and composting. The camp will be facilitated by members of Green Brunei and the local Iban community from Sumbiling Eco Village. 34 teams compete for a green cause

THE second Remarkable Green Race concluded yesterday with 34 teams taking part to tackle various environmentally-themed obstacles in Bio-Innovation Corridor in Tungku. Present as the guest of honour was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) Wardi Hj Mohammad Ali, who presented prizes and tokens of appreciation to winners and sponsors respectively. The first place went to Team The Uncertain who earned 53 points. Team members brought home four Canon Ixus 310 digital cameras sponsored by Interhouse, diving course vouchers from Oceanic Quest, and one-week passes to Fitness Zone. Second place went to Team Farmers with 46 points, and the members received printers sponsored by Interhouse, two-day-one-night stay in Sumbiling Eco Village, Temburong, and one-week passes to Fitness Zone. It is laudable that the environmental activist group, Green Brunei, will be organising a Waste 2 Art Exhibition to inculcate and promote recycling and waste management among growing and impressionable children. In this age of global warming and fast depleting natural resources, environmental awareness and ecological protection activities like this would certainly go a long way in safeguarding nature, whose well-being is crucial for our existence and survival. MORE solutions and less talk. Non-government organisations expect Legislative Council (LegCo) members to think ahead and offer solutions rather than engage in unnecessary discussions when they start convening for the 12th session on Saturday. Iswandy Ahmad, president of Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAC), said LegCo members need to focus on actions that will be taken to improve Brunei’s development. “I think there should be more of a “thinking ahead and solving issues mentality”, instead of just “discussing about issues”, he said in an interview.
