50 students attend eco-social seminar

FIFTY students from various learning institutions took part in a pilot workshop jointly conducted by a local eco-awareness non-governmental organisation and a Singaporean-based youth development organisation. Green Brunei an organisation that promotes environmental education and awareness, and Envisage Education Pte Ltd (Envisage) conducted the workshop aimed at creating awareness about the complex link between the economy, the environment and societal needs with a focus on sustainability. The Eco-Socio Entrepreneurship Seminar was held at Pusat Belia (Youth Centre) in the capital yesterday. It saw students from public and private education institutions, including Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Institut Teknologi Brunei, Politeknik, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School, St Andrew's School and Tutong Sixth Form Centre. "NATURE'S Avengers initiative is a project for youths, by youths," said Hanna Hassanal, 18, a Green Brunei Student Ambassador and Project Coordinator of the Nature's Avengers project. The project is one of the many exemplary youth-initiated projects in Brunei. While Green Brunei is a non-government organisation (NGO) that focuses on environmental awareness, it has become a platform for charismatic youth leaders to take charge of leading projects that that focus on environmental awareness, preservation and conservation such as the mangrove planting project. A NEW environmental movement dubbed the Nature's Avengers, under the Green Brunei organisation, hosted its first project for some 30 primary pupils from three schools in educating them on the blessings of nature, biodiversity and eco-system of the rainforest, at Bintudoh Greenspring Resort, Tutong. The new group's mission includes engaging with the environment hands-on to impact the young by changing their attitudes. The group was an initiative, led by Dk Hanna Afiqah Pg Hassanal Ali Saifuddien, a Green Brunei Student Ambassador and Project Coordinator.
