A GROUP of more than 20 staff from Standard Chartered Bank volunteered their time to clean Kampong Ayer, near Kampung Sungai Besar area yesterday morning. The volunteering initiative was spearheaded by Standard Chartered’s Recreation Club committee and led by the club’s chairperson, Muhammad Red Abdullah Ong, in collaboration with Green Brunei whose volunteers also participated in the activity. The volunteers started out from the jetty at the waterfront in town at 7am and made their way to the via boat before commencing with their cleaning activity over two hours. Lessons on mother nature at Temburong Camp

TEN students from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Secondary School (YSHHBSS) recently had an adventurous time in Temburong while gaining a better understanding of climate change and its impact at a camp. The trip to the Climate Camp organised by eco-based non-governmental organisation Green Brunei at the Sumbiling Eco Village was part of the school’s August ACE (To Achieve To Challenge To Excel) Enrichment Programme. At the camp, representatives of the school comprising Year Nine and 10 students and their two teachers, ACE Enrichment Programme supervisor Airulyanti Aibau and Green Club supervisor Hana Suhana Johari, had the opportunity to experience challenging and exciting activities in the jungle around the river such as jungle trekking, tubing, swimming, visit to waterfall and night walk. BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Seminar belia mengenai Nadi Borneo yang berlangsung selama tiga hari, telah berakhir dengan pengumpulan idea dan juga penyerahan sijil penyertaan yang berlangsung di Galeri Seni dan Kebudayaan Kampong Ayer. Seramai 29 belia telah menyertai seminar itu terdiri daripada belia dari Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia dan juga Malaysia. Belia-belia ini juga baru sahaja ikut serta dalam satu acara yang memfokuskan untuk meningkatkan kefahaman mereka tentang inisiatif Nadi Borneo dan juga memberikan kuasa kepada mereka sebagai ketua dalam penggerak generasi seterusnya dalam mempromosikan perkembangan mapan. Heart of Borneo seminar for youth concludes

THE three-day youth seminar on the Heart of Borneo (HOB) concluded recently with a project pitching and certificate presentation at the Kampong Ayer Cultural and Tourism Gallery. Twenty-nine youth participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesian and Malaysia took part in the event which aims to increase understanding of the Heart of Borneo Initiative and empower them to be the next-generation leaders in promoting sustainable development, a press release said. TWO Bruneians were awarded the Chevening Scholarship for the 2016-2017 session in a reception held yesterday at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Brunei. The recipients are Azizul Azri Hj Majit, an Administrative Officer 1st Grade at the Youth and Sports Department who will be pursuing an MSc in Sustainability and Management at Royal Holloway, University of London and Khairunissa Ash’ari, Co-Founder and Community Engagement Director at Green Brunei will be pursuing an MA in Environment, Politics and Globalisation at King’s College London.
