HER Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom will present the inaugural Queen’s Young Leaders Awards to the founder of Green Brunei at the Buckingham Palace on June 22. According to a statement released yesterday, Khairunnisa Ash’ari was among 60 exceptional young people from across the Commonwealth nations recognised by The Queen for her contributions in creating a difference in the community. OPEN burning is so common that it has become “a culture” in Brunei, despite repeated warnings and laws to deter people from burning their garbage. Dk Haryanti Pg Hj Petra, environment officer and head of Belait branch at the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRE), said officers even get threatened when they advise offenders not to practise open burning.
