Green Brunei is calling for youth aged between 16 – 25 years old to register for the upcoming 4th Green Leaders Camp that will be organized from 5th to 8th December at the Youth Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Green Leaders Camp aims to train youth leaders and youth mobilization, through the exposure of issues and environmental initiatives led by NGOs in the country. It also aims to empower participants through a variety of workshops such as volunteerism, project management, environmental threats, conservation and many others. The participants are expected to critically assess the environmental problems facing the country and find possible solutions for those problems through discussions and activities.
The theme for this camp is ‘Sustainable Tourism Development’ and thus the program will cover topics such as Sustainable Tourism, Marketing and Digital Storytelling, Youth Volunteerism and many more. Speakers from the Tourism Development Department, Kunyit 7 Lodge, Borneo Guide and Sunshine Borneo Tours and Travel will be present to share their insights on the opportunities in the tourism industry. Through this engagement, the camp will focus on the capacity building of youth, to enable them to take action in their efforts towards preserving the environment and ensuring the sustainability of our natural resources.
In addition to the talks, the participants will also go on field trips to Ukong Sago Farm and Madu Kelulut Farm in Tutong District for them to see what Brunei has to offer and how to maximize their potential. They will also participate in the “Tourist Survival” challenge, where they have to complete all obstacles around selected areas in Brunei-Muara district with a limited amount of budget. The purpose is for them to work in groups and learn about socio-economic in tourism development, leadership, teamwork, financial management, critical thinking while acting as groups of back-packers.
After the programme, participants are expected to organize follow up projects or community service with Green Brunei’s support.
Up to date, 95 youth have participated in the camp and 7 groups of alumni have successfully conducted a post-event project.
This camp is limited to 30 participants only. Selection will be based on their experience or passion towards environmental conservation and have demonstrated strong leadership skills.
